I wouldn’t normally post pictures of something like an ascent up Heart Mountain. However, I thought my family out East might enjoy these and find it interesting. In the distant background is the town of Canmore, for your reference.
Heart Mountain is an extremely popular ascent as it is close to Calgary and can be done fairly quickly as a nice loop that combines two mountain summits.
On this particular Friday, I found myself done work early so decided to head out to Heart for some quick exercise. This trip took me a bit over two hours and I was back in Calgary for dinner.
Traditional Summit Selfie!
As with most popular summits in the Rockies, there is a summit register you can write your name in.
The trail that leads over to Grant MacEwan Peak.
From the summit of Grant MacEwan peak you can see Mount Yamnuska in the distance.
The neighboring peak has a fire lookout on it that is manned only during the summer.

So why is it called Heart Mountain? Because the top looks like a heart.
For those that can’t make it out.
