Quick Stats

  • Distance: 5.3Km (one way)
  • Height Gain: 91m (one way)
  • Round Trip Time: 3h

There are a couple different options to start on this trail but eventually, you will end up on a trail that follows the Elbow River.
The majority of the trail just follows the river. It isn’t a popular trail so you many have to navigate a bit. Ice spikes are helpful when there is snow or ice.
In a few places the trail moves away from the water and into the forest. There are many blown over trees in this area which forces you to climb over them or reroute.
Around the mid-point of the trail, it gains elevation, and you finally get a view that isn’t the Elbow River. You can see Prairie Mountain in the distance.
View in the other direction from the high point in the middle.
Then back down again for more travel beside the river.
When you reach Cobble Flats you have a few options. Turn around and head back the way you came. Take the Mustang hills loop for a 12Km return loop or use two cars and drive back from the Cobble Flats parking lot, assuming the road is open when you visit.
